Washington Wing Cadet Activities

Western Cadet Academy (WCA)

WCA is held in Arlington, Washington and is designed to help teach cadets the basics. It is equivalent to a small summer encampment. It has classes that are for Cadet Basics, Airmen, NCOs, and commissioned officers. This is a good place to learn all the required skills to help in the promotion process.

Class offerings are sent out via the Washington Wing email. If you are not signed up on the mailing list you will not receive notices.

Basic Marksmanship Encampment

Marksmanship encampment is held twice a year and is an event for cadets to earn NRA qualifications. The cadets are taught firearm safety and competition shooting positions. Then they spend two days shooting small bore .22 caliber rifles to earn the NRA qualifications of Pro Marksman thru Distinguished Expert. The last encampment had 44 cadets participating and firing over 7,000 rounds in two days. This is one of only a few marksmanship encampments available to cadets and we are proud to have it here in Lewis County. Encampment news is posted to the Washington Wing mailing list.

Rocketry

Every year our squadron does a rocketry class as part of our Aerospace education commitment. This allows the cadets to learn about current rocket technology and what the future holds. In addition each cadet will be instructed on building their own model rocket and then allowed to launch it. During the launches the Cadet are also taught how to triangulate the altitude that their rocket achieved. This is a great environment to learn rocketry and then get to apply the skills.

Rocketry opportunities will be announced at drill. Keep an eye on the squadron schedule.
